| It's trendy to talk about products being green, manufactured using sustainable, environmentally-responsible processes. WrennWood® superior pine flooring and paneling was the very essence of "green" long before "green" was fashionable. Here's why....
Enhanced Durability & Indoor Air Quality. Our prefinished pine flooring eliminates the dust and contaminates produced during a conventional flooring installation, and our advanced finish technology uses high-tech ceramics to increase the abrasion resistance of the flooring's wear layer.
What that means is a more even and durable finish without volatile organic compounds or chemical gasses being released into your home.
Also, our kiln-dried process for all wood products kills any mold, fungus or insect infestation the could be present in the raw material.
The U.S. Green Building Council and affiliate programs have awarded WrennWood® two points for solid surface floors that do not require onsite chemical treatments (item #5.4.14) and one LEED point for low-emitting paints and coatings (credit #4.2).
Locally-Harvested Lumber. All of our lumber is harvested from North Carolina forests within 70 miles of our plant.
The U.S. Green Building Council and affiliate programs have awarded WrennWood® five points for locally-available, indigenous materials, extracted, processed and manufactured within a 300-mile radius (item #2.8.1) and one LEED point for regional materials extracted, processed and manufactured in a 500-mile radius (credit #5.2).
Economic Sustainability. We're a locally owned and operated business, providing jobs within our community and supporting organizations dedicated to enhancing civic life.
The U.S. Green Building Council and affiliate programs have awarded WrennWood® two points for economically-sustainable business practices that have an economic impact within the community (item #7.2.10).
Reuse for Social Responsibility. Our waste is reduced and raw materials are provided for other businesses by reusing all by-products of our milling processes. Tree bark is turned to mulch. Sawdust fuels our dry kiln. Shavings are used for chicken and horse litter. And wood chips find their way into paper products.
Sustainable Forestry. We use hard Southern Yellow Pine, a wood that renews itself three times faster than hardwood, and forests supplying our timber are managed according to North Carolina Forest Services standards for erosion control, stream protection, buffer zones and reforestation and reseeding practices.
On-Site Monitoring. How do we know we're always in compliance? WrennWood® has a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Accredited Professional on staff someone who has demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles.
